Your information, clearly explained
Privacy Policy
Last updated
This policy explains how ScreenSense Studios (“ScreenSense,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the ScreenSense website, mobile apps, web app, and related services (together, the “Services”).
1. Scope
This policy applies to the Services and to communications you have with us. It does not govern third-party websites, stores, or services that have their own privacy policies.
ScreenSense is designed for adults making media choices for their families. A parent or other authorized adult creates and manages the account.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account and contact information: your email address, account identifiers, authentication information, and messages you send to support.
- Family profiles: names or nicknames, avatars or emoji, optional birthdays, family roles, caregiver invitations, and access settings.
- Media and scan information: show titles, scan results and signal measurements, ratings, watchlists, viewing decisions, saved history, and feedback you choose to submit.
- Family observations: TV, sleep, behavior, and context logs; notes; tags; goals; and other information you choose to record. Depending on what you enter, this information may be sensitive.
- Community contributions: ratings, tags, or other insights you affirmatively choose to contribute for aggregated community features.
Camera, microphone, photos, and files
ScreenSense may request access to your camera and microphone to analyze a TV segment and may request access to photos or files when you choose to import media. A scan’s raw recording is analyzed on your device and is not uploaded to our servers as part of scan analysis. If you save a clip, it remains on your device unless you choose to export or share it. You can change device permissions in your operating system settings.
Subscriptions
Apple or Google processes purchases made through its app store. RevenueCat helps us manage subscription status and entitlements. We may receive product, transaction, renewal, expiration, refund, store, and account-identifier information, but we do not receive your full payment-card number.
Information collected automatically
We and our service providers may collect device and app information, IP address and approximate location derived from it, operating-system version, app version, language, identifiers, diagnostic data, feature interactions, and event timestamps. The public marketing site does not currently use advertising cookies or analytics scripts.
Analytics and attribution
Our mobile and browser apps may use Mixpanel for product analytics. Our mobile apps may also use Meta and TikTok tools to measure app events and marketing performance. Depending on the platform, your device settings, and the permissions you grant, these tools may process app activity, device or advertising identifiers, and attribution data. On iOS, you can deny the system tracking request; you can also limit tracking through your device settings.
Content information from other sources
We obtain show, movie, streaming-availability, and YouTube channel metadata from sources such as TMDB and YouTube. If you search for or select content, those queries and identifiers may be sent to the relevant provider through our backend.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- provide accounts, authentication, family sharing, scans, watchlists, tracking, insights, and subscription features;
- personalize the Services and remember your settings;
- operate, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the Services;
- understand feature use and measure the effectiveness of our communications and marketing;
- respond to support requests and send service-related notices;
- create aggregated community insights when you opt in;
- prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents; and
- comply with law and enforce our agreements.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Services, your consent, and compliance with legal obligations, as appropriate.
5. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information; to withdraw consent; to object to or restrict certain processing; to opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising; and to appeal a decision we make about a privacy request.
You can update some information in the Services and can permanently delete your account through the in-app account settings. See our account deletion instructions, or email support@getscreensense.com. Tell us what you are requesting and the email associated with your account. We may need to verify your identity. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authorization and identity.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision. You may also have the right to contact your local privacy regulator or state attorney general.
To stop non-essential communications, use the unsubscribe link when one is provided. We may still send important account, security, transaction, or policy notices.
6. Retention and security
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain your account, meet legal and financial obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention periods vary by data type and purpose. We may retain deidentified or aggregated information that cannot reasonably be linked to you.
When you delete your account, we begin deleting or deidentifying account data, subject to limited retention for legal, security, fraud-prevention, backup, and transaction-record obligations. Information stored only on your device may need to be removed through the app or your device settings.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards. No system or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children’s privacy
The Services are intended for parents, guardians, and other adults and are not directed to children under 13. Children may not create ScreenSense accounts. Adults may choose to enter information about children they are authorized to manage. Please use a nickname and avoid unnecessary details.
If you believe a child submitted personal information directly to us without appropriate adult authorization, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where required.
8. International processing
ScreenSense and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries where privacy laws may differ from those where you live. Where required, we use recognized safeguards for cross-border transfers.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy here and update the date above. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice through the Services or by email where appropriate.
